First stop NY
The flight went smoothly enough, almost no turbulence, however I was with the Eduardo Mata Youth Orchestra, quite a noisy group of people. I usually have no problem sleeping anywhere, but do guess the coffee I had before didn't help, now I'm waiting in JFK for my connection to London.
It'll be a long wait but I hope I can manage to sleep a little at least. It's quite warm here actually, I thought it'd be cold so that won't be a problem right now.
There are other people waiting and dozing around the place, do I guess I'll be alright.
See you tomorrow

I'm going on an adventure!

Final destination: Iceland
Not so final destinations: New York ( JFK Airport) London ( Gatwick and Luton Airports)
Current destination: Aeropuerto Benito Juárez CDMX

Even though I love travelling, this is the first time I write a travel blog, given the many stops I'll make and the many waiting hours awaiting for me I guess I can make a good use of them.

On this occasion I'm headed to Iceland, the famous land of Ice and fire, home of both glaciers and volcanoes, amazing landscapes, mesmerizing northern lights and unpredictable weather.
Even though Iceland had been on my bucket list, it wasn't the plan for this year, however my friend Fang Ling ( whom I met during an exchange program at UNM ) proposed traveling together to either Iceland or New Zealand ( also on the must see list, as a LOTR fan) , and so the trip was planned, the preparations made and the fated day came.
It seemed such a long time till the trip, but suddenly it was October 2nd.

It'll certainly be an unforgettable experience, not only for the place we will visit but for all that it entails, renting a car and driving around, dealing with the high prices and low temperatures ( take in mind that both Taiwan and Mexico are what you'd considering tropical countries), I have much expectation for this trip.

Now let's talk about the preparations
I booked the flights via Kayak, who redirected me to Kiwi. I looked for a multi destination flight, Mexico - Iceland- Norway- Mexico, and got a pretty good deal, in exchange for long stops at NY and London, I'll be getting to both places at night so I will have time just to spend the night on the Airport. Perhaps I could've got a more comfortable flight searching more or paying more, but at the time it was the best deal and I'm always willing to suffer some discomforts in exchange of saving some money.

In the case of this trip,I was in charge of renting the car, there are many car rental companies in Iceland, and at first I chose a Toyota Rav 4 from Cars Iceland, however, before confirming the reservation, we decided for a bigger option and cheaper too at Blue car Iceland, this time a Nissan Xtrail 7 seats.
When you make the reservation you have to add the extra driver's, wfi gps, roof box, children seats, and all the needed insurances ( collisions, ash, sand, gravel etc)
You can pick up the car at Keflavik International airport and return it there once your journey is over.

Regarding accommodation, my friend was in charge of that, but mostly we will stay at places with kitchen because...
It seems everything is quite expensive in Iceland, the plan is getting groceries on the capital and cook our meals to save some money. I read somewhere that a useful tip was to bring your own instant coffee and tea, so you can have a hot beverage when needed, I did it and added instant miso soup to the mix, however perhaps it'll be better to buy those in bulk once in Iceland ( there's  Cosco ). What I think we will need to buy are high calorie snacks such as chocolate and nuts. ( I'm hoping that all these frugality and saving money will end in me losing some weight though, but given I do live to eat I wonder if it'll be possible)

Now, about packing, I'm a panic shopper, so since I'm also scared of cold weather ( got to experience it in the US ) I bought many thermal clothing and wool socks and so on, half of it I had to leave behind because my backpack was already too big ( the weight was ok though), the next days will say if it was a good call or not.
I did bring a waterproof and windbreaker jacket an pants, since the weather forecast announces wind and rain.

Now the main goals of this journey are 1. Have lots of fun with my dear friend Ling Ling
2. See the northern lights
The bad weather makes me worry!

Right now I'm waiting at Mexico City airport, the flight is delayed ( I'm flying with Interjet), but I have a long stop at NY so I have no worries.

About stops.
I'll arrive at NY at around 11 pm, my flight leaves tomorrow ( October 3rd ) at 11 am,.it does seem like a long enough stop to visit the city, BUT JFK is not close to the main attractions, and the main attraction I could see would be Times Square, I weighed the options and I think it wouldn't be worthwhile to spend money just going back and forth the airport. So the plan is to do as Tom Hanks in The Terminal and spend the night at the airport. I even got an inflatable neck cushion.

On October 3rd around 11am I'll fly to London, the flight will take 7 hours but I'll arrive at around 11 pm, I have to get from Gatwick airport to Luton, the cheapest option was taking the bus but since it also takes longer than a train I had to choose the latter. I got my tickets online ( being a non peak hour, the ticket can be used for a period of time) as a friend who lives in London suggested, and I have to print it in one of the machines once I get out of immigration and bag pick up.

I'll have just enough time to take the train and get to Luton 3 hours before my last ( for the time being) flight to Reikyavik, which leaves at 650 am
So, getting there will be an adventure by itself!
